Weekly Wrap Up - Lindsey to the Rescue

Yvette and I went to tea on Saturday.  It was a fun little outing.  The first course was pumpkin scones with Devonshire cream and marmalade, fruit, cheese and crackers.  The second course was a sandwich platter (which I forgot to photograph) that consisted of a small tomato bisque with grilled cheese strips, smoked turkey/cranberry relish pinwheels and almond butter/raspberry jam on a brioche.  The third course included a caramel apple tart, strawberry cheesecake and a pumpkin shaped rice krispy treat, with a cute little chocolate stem.

Monday was a non-eventful day.  Lindsey was at the museum, I worked on laundry and everyone else did their regular things.  Exciting times ya'll!'

Tuesday was cold and pouring rain.  The forecast originally called for a "wintry mix" but out temperatures hovered just barely above freezing so we had cold rain, but no ice.   Lindsey was scheduled to work and extra day at the museum since they had 600 students from an elementary school scheduled to do a field trip all day.  Despite the staff's best efforts on Monday, the school would not reschedule and brought all 600 kids out to the museum in the pouring rain and cold.

When Lindsey went to her lunch break, she had a strong feeling that she needed to hang around in the main entry for a bit before heading into the building and back into the break room. Within a few minutes one of the other interpreters and a field trip chaperone brought a child in who was obviously in distress. The child was shivering uncontrollably and confused/unable to answer simple questions.  Lindsey and the other interpreter quickly determined the child (who was not dressed appropriately for the weather) was showing early signs of hypothermia.

Lindsey's first aid and pre-med studies kicked in and she quickly took charge of the situation, getting most of the wet clothing changed and into the staff dryer and getting anything warm to put around the student, as well as directing staff on what to do.  (She is her mother's child...take charge and get it done.) The chaperone called the child's mother, to see if there were any underlying medical conditions and explained the situation and that if there wasn't improvement within the next few minutes they were going to have to call the ambulance.  The mother responded with "Well I told him he needed to dress warmer, so I don't feel for him."  Don't even ask how well that statement went over with everyone.  In the end, they were able to get him dry and warm and back to normal (it took about 45 minutes).  The student stayed inside, until the school staff finally determined that it was indeed too cold and wet, and piled everyone back on the bus for the 3 hour ride back home.

The rest of the week was uneventful and pretty standard.   Have a great weekend!
