Weekly Wrap Up - First Week of College

Our second week of school was not nearly as hectic as our first week, thank goodness.   I think we're getting into a routine now...maybe.   Lindsey has adjusted relatively well to having braces.  The first few days were very painful for her, and she went through a LOT of Tylenol, but has finally turned the corner and no longer needs pain meds for now.

Monday morning we had our chiropractor appointment.  I hate having appointments on Monday morning, so I made sure the gal switched us back to our normal Thursday spot for next time.  Anyway, after the chiro we went to the discount grocery and picked up a few items and then it was home to work on school.   After regular lessons were done, Olivia worked on SAT prep through Kahn Academy (SAT's are this weekend), and Lindsey made another half-dozen pillow covers for a couple of clients.

Olivia is really liking the Consumer Math.  She's currently learning about car loans, interest and insurance.   Since she is currently saving money to buy her first car, this is a very timely learning experience for her.   It has sparked lots of conversations between us too as she tries to wrap her head around various adulting scenarios.

Lindsey likes the online Teaching Textbooks Algebra 2.   I knew that for her, an online class would make a huge difference with math, and so far she's doing really well with it, so I'm glad we went this route.   Surprisingly enough, she is also enjoying North Star Geography.  The biggest wow factor for her is that she's having to do a lot of online research and notebooking instead of just dry reading and map memorization.
Tuesday was Olivia's first day of college.   I was really excited for her, and so very proud to watch her walk confidently onto campus for the first time.
Lindsey picked up a new babysitting client, and ended up working 9:45am-3:30pm on Tuesday.  She got up at 7am so she could work on some of her lessons before she left for work, and she took other subjects with her to work on during naptime.   Everyone finished up lessons when they returned home from their various locations.

Wednesday we finished up school pretty early and then went and did a couple hours of volunteer work at the thrift store our church runs.  Proceeds from the store go to our Haiti projects.

Thursday Olivia worked at the farm from 9am-2pm.  Lindsey had her school work finished by noonish, and then started reading a new book in the "Percy Jackson" series.  It's amazing how quick her reading is when it's something she likes to read compared to required reading.   Olivia finished her school work when she got home from work.

Friday Olivia had to be at the farm by 7am (she HATES getting up early), and Lindsey had to be at the museum by 10am.  I spent the morning being the taxi service, then hit the grocery store and library.   Everyone got their schoolwork done in the afternoon after returning from their various jobs. The evening was spent at the $3 movies watching Toy Story 4 with friends.

I hope you have a great weekend, and for those with kids doing the SAT's this weekend....it will all be ok!

  1. I have found that my boys read so much faster when it's something they want to read too. I found that Alec's braces hurt the most when he first got them on and then for each time he went and have to have them adjusted.

  2. So nice to be settling into the new routines, although I think it always takes a little time to feel completely adjusted. Glad your girls are liking their classes and you're all off to a great start!
