Weekly Wrap Up - In the Groove

I think we've gotten settled into our school routine, a little anyway.   It will likely continue to be a bit fluid as we adjust to fit each girls work day schedule.  We're also still waiting on the volleyball schedule, which will impact our afternoons and evenings.

Monday Lindsey had a babysitting job from 8am-2:00pm.  She took some of her school work with her to work on during nap time, and then she called and had me bring her more books after lunch.  Olivia was originally scheduled to go to the farm, but that changed.  She took advantage of her extra time at home to work ahead in several subjects.

Tuesday Olivia was off to college.  She experienced her first fire drill on campus. The instructor was out of the room when it happened, so nobody knew what the protocol was, or where to go, so they just filed out and followed the crowd.   So far, she's not overly impressed with her class.  Not that she doesn't like it, but she expected it to be harder and more involved than it is, but it's early yet.   The professor did bring her two Siberian Huskies to class this week, so that made it all the better.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty standard days.  There were extenuating circumstances with this week that affected the folks Olivia works for, so she didn't get in any farm this week.   I've found, that even though Lindsey doesn't like "history", she loves reading about people/places.   I've incorporated a literature selection that covers her book report for Language Arts, and ties in with her World Geography, where she's currently studying Europe.   She's reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer: In the Midst of Wickedness.  I've been pleased to see that she's reading ahead, and even coming to talk to me about things that happened in his family and life.  Score!

Friday, Lindsey was up early to knock out the majority of her school work before she headed to the museum to work.   Olivia had done extra work all week to free her schedule up, expecting to be at the farm all day, so she had a math quiz and then was finished.

No post is complete without photos, and there's only so much you can do with teens and text books.  Instead, I've got a few photos from this past weekend.  Olivia's youth group had their annual "Mudball" (volleyball in the mud) game on Sunday.   Olivia's team were the season champs.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Wow! That Mudball looks... muddy! Sounds like they are great about getting their schoolwork done when they can. I have found that I prefer learning about history through personal stories too; it just makes it seem much more real and relevant.
