Weekly Wrap Up - Olivia Meets a Hero

Friday evening and Saturday we were at a volleyball tournament with Lindsey's team.  This was their first time playing a tournament.  Friday was a struggle.  There's one girl on the team who lets jealousy get the best of her, and she flat refuses to get the ball to the setter, and if the setter doesn't get the ball she can't get the ball in place for the hitter's.  Then that player's parents started with "You can only play until 7pm."  So they adjusted the rotation and then the parents said she could still play.  This happened three times and finally she got benched, then the parents made her leave.  By then, the whole team was frustrated and confused over the rotation.  The night ended with straight losses.  The expressions on her face in the photo below sums up the whole day.

Saturday, the problematic player didn't show up.  The atmosphere was totally different, the girls were relaxed and having fun.  They used the setter and were getting some great kills in, and really came together as a team.  They ended up winning EVERY.SINGLE.GAME they played.  They finished up placing third in the tournament, which wasn't bad for their first tournament ever!

Sunday, our church hosted retired Lieutenant General William G. Boykin.  If you ever get a chance to hear this man speak, I highly encourage it.  Olivia is farm sitting, and came straight from the barns to church to hear him speak.  I'm sure her appearance was frowned upon by a lot of religious people, but she's learned not to care about such opinions.  Interestingly enough, he didn't seem to mind the dirt (or smell) when she spoke with him afterwards.

Monday was a regular school day with volleyball games in the evening.  Olivia is gone for the next two weeks as she pulls double duty - house/dog sitting at one place and farm sitting at another.

Tuesday morning Lindsey had team photos, then it was a regular school day.  Jiu-jitsu wrapped up the evening.

Wednesday, you guessed it, regular school day.  Volleyball practice wrapped up Lindsey's evening and I had a class at church.

Thursday was a regular school day, followed by an away volleyball game for middle school, junior varsity and varsity.  I can honestly say that I've NEVER been to a sporting event where the hosting school students treated the visiting school so poorly.  You know it's bad when one of the coaches for the home team stops the game to address their students' behavior.  Not that it mattered, they continued to be vulgar and rude.  The announcer offered an apology over the loud speaker between the middle school and junior varsity game, which also did little.  You can slap the title "Christian" on many things, but this wasn't it.

Friday morning was gray and chilly.  Rains from "Ian" are supposed to move in mid-afternoon.  School will be wrapping up early.  Laundry will be my fun activity.

Have a good weekend.  Pray for the people of Florida!
